DIY Pond in a pot

We found another wonderful idea of a DIY project that can turn a simple pot into a work of art and your house into a more beautiful place. In case you are a fan of water plants and ponds, but you are not a friend of digging holes in your garden, you should definitely try this. It's easy to do!

This picture guide is pretty self explanatory and you can see that as far as materials go it's pretty inexpensive. Once you know what container you are going to use, just seal the bottom of the container to prevent the water pouring out, and fill it up with soil. Depending on what plants you are planning to grow you should adjust the depth of the water, by adding containers that you can fill up with soil. You can try to do it as in the picture on the left, or another simple idea is to use another smaller pot that you simply place inside and fill up with soil. The container can be either terracotta, plastic or metal... or perhaps you can recycle something that you were about to throw out (an old bathtub or half of a truck tire, be creative).

Water plants are not that picky when it comes to soil so you can use almost any type of dirt that you find around. You can also fill part of your container with rocks so you can save up the amount of dirt you have to put in.

We gathered some nice ideas for your inspiration, but feel free to try out new stuff and maybe share some pictures with us after you are done.
Also for a more comprehensive guide and  some video tutorials you can read this article at notesontheroad.com.

If you do plan to make yourself a miniature (or a full size) water pond you should keep in mind that standing water attracts  mosquito. But that shouldn't worry you to much since they can be kept at bay really easy. One think that you can do it put some fish in your pond. Guppies will work like a wonder, they are not expensive, they are beautiful and they will attack any mosquito trying to lay eggs in your pond.

We also put in a quick tutorial on how to make an anti-mosquito lamp for your garden. Check it out.

Let us know what you think and feel free to share your results with us or ask us anything about your future project, we will try to help each of you out as best as we can.
